First Blog

Ok, so this is my first post on my new blog. 🙂

Honestly, I have been going back and forth over what to write on this particular post.  Should I introduce myself and my family?  Isn’t that why there is an About Us page?  Should I start a blog about something I did recently as if I have been writing this blog forever, or should I commemorate this first blog with some sort of history?  Then, it hit me.  I am thinking way too much about this.  I’m building it up and over-complicating it.  I need to simplify this thought process.

Ok, so…Simple.

In 2010, I made a new year’s resolution to blog every day.  While the experience was fun, by the end of the year I was feeling burnt out.  So, the next year, I decided to step away from the computer and not blog for an entire year.  This was a very weird experience.  Because I was trying to stay away from the temptation of blogging, I inadvertently stayed away from social networking sites as well, for the most part.  There was hardly any posted pictures or status updates the entire year.  Even though I journaled on paper and took a few pictures here and there, it definitely felt like 2011 was just this big black hole of non-information about our life.

And I really missed blogging.

About mid-way through the year, I had an epiphany.  Instead of looking at this non-blogging year as a fast, I decided to use it as a sort of sabbatical.  I learned more about why other people blogged, what drove them to write every day, week or month.  I looked introspectively at why I loved blogging and where I wanted to go with it.  I realized that I had always been an impulsive blogger, so instead, why not really think about what I’m putting out there and plan what it is I want to say and where I might want to go with it?

I came up with some pretty basic ideas.  I know that I want to keep it simple. 🙂  I love to share things, so whether it’s my family (especially my incredible husband), my dogs, my bargains or my experiences, I want to record them, share them and let you, the reader, be a part of it.  I’m so excited for this new year, and everything it will bring!

So here’s to a fresh start at keeping it simple!

What did you write as your very first entry to your blog?  What advice would you give first time (or returning) bloggers?

  1. Welcome back to blogging!! 🙂 Hmmm, I think on my first blog post ever, I wrote about me and my husband’s move from our apartment to our first house. And my advise on blogging would definitely be to stay true to yourself! Keep your voice and stay true to who you are. 🙂 (And have FUN).

  2. I only started blogging a couple of months ago, but I’m loving it. It began as I was just enjoying a quiet moment to myself in our living room. Having recently got married and moved to a new country, it was perhaps the first quiet few minutes I’d had to sit back and appreciate everything that’s happened. I felt inspired and wanted to share my wonderful moment with the world… My laptop was beside me and that’s where i began. And I’m so glad I did! Now I look forward to finding time every couple of days to sit down and reflect.

    Happy New Year Everyone! 🙂

  3. Hi Katy. I got an email that you are following my simple little blog, so I thought I’d check yours out (plus the blog name is really catchy. Love it.) Very interesting. I too have kind of stepped away from blogging off and on because I don’t really know what I want to do with the blog or where to go with it, so I just aimlessly post and my dad reads them. Ha ha My first post was ridiculous and simple. I think I sort of introduced myself (but that was before the “About Me” section–which still needs a lot of work.) Looking forward to your posts!

    • Thanks for stopping by! Yes, my previous blogs were mainly written for only a few friends and family. I’m trying to branch out and meet new people this time (which can be nerve-racking, but I am really enjoying it!). Thanks again!

  4. My first post was lame-o…but you have to start somewhere, right? I recommend writing about things you love…when you want to. I keep telling myself I won’t blog as often and then I just can’t stop.
