This month, Michael and I had the pleasure of going to a choir production of Broadway showtunes. I am an amateur Broadway fan, I think. I grew up on Phantom of the Opera. Les Mis was the first musical I saw, which I saw in the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. One of my favorite chorus songs to sing in high school was “Seasons of Love” from Rent. So, I knew that I would enjoy this production, even if I only knew a few of the songs.
I was pleasantly surprised to recognize most of the songs sung, or at least the tunes. They did songs like “Into the Woods”, “Give My Regards to Broadway”, and “Send in the Clowns”. The chorus was massive, and the church where they sang was beautiful. However, let’s not forget the special guest singer they had there that night!
If you don’t recognize the face, that is David Gaschen. He sang as the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera on Broadway! He did a rendition of “Music of the Night” that had me holding my breath and tearing up by the end. There was this one note that he sang that could literally take your breath away. I absolutely loved it.
However, no matter where we are, what we are doing or who we are listening to, the night was so special simply because I got to spend it with this guy. I love my husband so much. 🙂
