Cookin’ Reviews

Yesterday’s interest was cooking.  I didn’t always like to cook.  I thought of it as a chore growing up because I preferred to be outside with my friends than stuck in a kitchen watching water boil.  I was known for burning things because I just simply didn’t pay attention.  Now that I have learned the art of the timer (and how you can actually use it to signal when to check things instead of when the recipe says it’s done), cooking has gotten a lot more interesting.

I picked one recipe for dinner that I had never done before, however I couldn’t do too many actual cooking recipes because I work 8 hours out of the day.  So, for two other recipes I chose shakes that I had never tried before.  One of them was a protein shake and the other was a splurge shake.

Now, I have tried several different ways to present recipes on this blog.  Sometimes I use pictures to illustrate like here, and sometimes it’s just a copy and paste of a recipe like here.  However, these are not my actual recipes, they are ones that I found other places, and I want to give these places props.  So, instead of simply copying and pasting recipes, I will put up pictures and a link to the actual site, then a short review.  These are great sites and deserve a looky-lou.  Here are the recipes:

Chocolate-covered Strawberry Shake from Eat-Yourself-Skinny.com

This was a very light shake.  I used a different protein powder, and it didn’t seem to dissolve well (there was a residue at the bottom, but it didn’t affect most of the drinking experience).  Still, it definitely did taste like a chocolate covered strawberry, and in the end, that’s what really counts.  🙂

Now, I don’t like chickpeas usually.  But the mixture between the spices and the shrimp was perfect.  Also, I got to garnish it with parsley from my kitchen windowsill herb garden!  Definitely something I would try again.

Reduced Fat Oreo Milkshake from Myfitnesspal.com

This was a “splurge” shake (and an excellent reason to indulge in reduced fat oreos.  I haven’t had them in FOREVER).  It was really yummy, although in the future, I will probably use less ice.  It was more like an oreo slushie, when I was thinking it would be creamier.

Today, I’ve been working on my private Facebook.  I created a cover photo with some recent pictures for my cover on my timeline.  I used Smilebox, only the free app portion of the site, but I don’t think I’m going to continue using it.  It was very easy to use and very clean, but a lot of the reviews say that it’s a bugger to cancel subscriptions (even though I never intended to divulge my credit card information).  Still, I got a nice collage from the deal, so I can’t complain.  🙂
