April Favorites

I have had an absolute blast this month. Michael’s busy season is coming to an end, and we celebrated Easter as a family. So many favorite moments, and here are a few more favorites this month.

Book of the Month

I usually don’t like a book with a lot of profanity in it, but this has to be my favorite this month simply for the fact that it challenged me on how I see and operate in the social media realm. Plus, it’s a great story. I wrote more about it here.

Baby

I bought this book for Sam for Easter. I love, love, love Matthew Paul Turner’s books. I have all three of them, and I will probably by any of the future ones he writes. His poetry (because that’s what it is) accurately reflects the love of God and for children so perfectly. You can check out more here.

Beauty and Fashion

I received my new FabFitFun box at the end of March so I have been playing around with a few of the products, like this Tula Purifying Face Cleanser. It’s a gel so it’s a different consistency from the other cleansers I’ve used in the past but it makes my skin oh so soft! I love it!

Like most subscription boxes, I can get you a bit of a discount and they will also give me a discount. The Spring box is going to be shipped next month and I already made my choices, so I’m anticipating some great products. You can still order the Spring box. Here’s the link for the discount.

Entertainment

Another movie from the TBW list, Mary Poppins Returns was absolutely adorable. I also watched Saving Mr. Banks this year on Netflix before I saw this one so the movie was a little different for me.

The plot follows the same formula as the first one. There is a scene with animation, a scene where they end up on the ceiling with a strange relative, and a scene of street workers dancing. There is even a scene at the bank, but I don’t think there was a song this time. Predictable, but cute. And Miranda and Blunt are darling. They do fix the unrequited love that Poppins and Bert seemed to have in the first movie…none of that in this one, but there is still love in the air.

March Favorites

This month wasn’t as short as the one before, but it still felt like it went pretty fast. Here are some favorites from the month of March.

Book of the Month

I love a good mystery series, and this is the second book in the Truly Devious series by Maureen Johnson. I wrote a review for it here.

Baby

We are entering the sippy cup phase and have tried a few of them. The
Munchkin Miracle 360 Trainer Cup is pretty neat because it allows Sam to drink without the water going everywhere. Plus, he can get water from it no matter how he holds it. And it stands up to being banged on the table, which he does a lot. It does spill a little, but it’s usually only if he bangs the cup upside down. And they are pretty affordable which is always a win. We got them from here.

Beauty and Fashion

I use different scents depending on the season, and the Spring scent is lavender. So, when I was trying to find a good shampoo and conditioner, I came across this brand. I used it last Sunday, all three products, and it was phenomenal. I really need something to help my frizz and also be something I can use quickly. The leave in conditioner is probably my favorite, but I loved all of them. Plus the brand seems very eco-friendly which is a plus. You can try it here.

Entertainment

Still chipping away at my TBW (To Be Watched) list. Michael and I finally have a couple of hours on Friday night to watch a rental movie together. This was our first choice and it didn’t disappoint.

Miles lives in New York, and Spiderman is a major presence in his life. He is a graffiti artist with a cop dad and goes to a magnet school. He is bit by a spider around the same time a portal opens which brings other “Spiderman” characters into his reality. But they need to get everyone back where they belong and close the portal for good or New York is going to be destroyed.

The movie was hilarious. My favorite was probably Spiderham, who was played by John Mulaney. I immediately recognized his voice, but I didn’t recognize Nicholas Cage who played Spiderman Noir until I looked it up. The timing was just really great on a lot of the jokes, plus it pokes fun at the comic as well.

February Favorites

This month is the shortest of the entire year, but I still had a few things I really enjoyed. Here are the favorites.

Book of the Month

This was a solid five star read for me. On the Come Up by Angie Thomas is her second book written in the same neighborhood as her first, but I wouldn’t call it a sequel. I wrote a review for it here.

Baby

Sam is starting to be so interactive and fun. It feels like he is learning new things every day. It’s been neat to play with puzzle toys like the Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Baby’s First Blocks with him. And when he puts the right shape in the holes, we dance around and celebrate. We received this as a hand-me-down gift, but I found the exact one on Amazon.

Beauty and Fashion

I’ve been using the Moroccan Gold Series Treatment Mask once a week for the past month, and I love it. It smells so good and my hair is so soft after I use it. I got this from my winter FabFitFun box. Another win for me.

Like most subscription boxes, I can get you a bit of a discount and they will also give me a discount. The Spring box is going to be shipped next month and I already made my choices, so I’m anticipating some great products. You can still order the Spring box. Here’s the link for the discount.

Entertainment

Still chipping away at my TBW (To Be Watched) list. This was one that came out last November and we watched on Redbox.

Clara arrives at her Godfather’s house and follows the string to her gift, which is a path to a beautiful, magical place first discovered by her mother. But the world is in trouble because one of the realms is trying to take over the other realms. And Clara has to learn to trust and believe in herself to prevail.

The movie was stunning. The sets, the costumes, just gorgeous. There were also beautifully choreographed ballet sequences throughout the movie. It is a good way to introduce little ones to ballet. Plus, Misty Copeland (the famous ballerina) is in the movie and dances in the credits. So awesome.

It’s definitely a good watch and if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend.

January Favorites

What a month. We have been dealing with some illness in our little family lately, so a focus on favorites is just what I need for a pick me up.

Book of the Month

I had a few strong four-star reads this month. I’m still working on my last book of my TBR (The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath), but I’m really happy with the books I’ve read so far this year. If I were to recommend one, it would be this one, It’s Not Supposed To Be This Way by Lysa Terkeurst. I wrote a review for it here.

Baby

As I’ve said, we have had a lot of illness in our house this month. So you better believe we have had at least one pack of these in every room. We use saline drops as well, but when you hear that sneeze (and you know the one I am talking about), it’s good to have these nearby.  You can check it out here.

Michael bought me the Winter box from FabFitFun.com because I was really intrigued. It was on sale for about $30, and you got a lot of products in the box. In fact, I think the Winter box is still on sale, although from what I understand, you don’t get all of the exact same products. It seems that they change them for new products once the old ones run out, but I haven’t seen much that I wouldn’t enjoy getting. Anyway, that long explanation brings me to this face mask. I couldn’t find it on Amazon, but it’s a mask that you can either put on for 5 mins or leave on overnight. It’s the perfect hydrating mask for me on nights I don’t have much time. And I love the feel of my skin when I wash it off.

Like most subscription boxes, I can get you a bit of a discount and they will also give me a discount. The Spring box comes out next month and I can’t wait to see what they have in store (which will probably be Michael’s Valentine’s present to me). Here’s the link for the discount.

Entertainment

I am a bit behind on all of the movies. I realize that this came out last summer, but it’s the first in my TBW (To Be Watched) list that I could finally rent (the next one is in February…it’s not weird to watch the Nutcracker in February, right?).

It’s basically a documentary on Fred Rogers. There are some things about his childhood, his education, the famous speech that saved PBS, and his later years where he was parodied and the rumors swirled. I remember those rumors as a kid. It was fascinating how they were addressed. Also, I learned a few things that warmed and broke my heart.

It’s definitely a good watch and if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend.
